Get Ready for a new step forward with Star Wars: Unlimited's next expansion- A Lawless Time

Updated: Feb 15

The next expansion for Star Wars: Unlimited is almost here, and at TCG Moonblast, we’re super excited to help players prepare for Set 7, A Lawless Time! With a gritty, underworld-focused theme and some meaningful updates to pack structure and gameplay mechanics, this set is shaping up to be one of the most impactful releases yet.

If you’re planning to preorder A Lawless Time, here’s everything you need to know about the new pack structure, mechanics, and what makes this set worth securing early.

What Is A Lawless Time?

A Lawless Time dives into the criminal underbelly of the Star Wars galaxy. Smugglers, syndicates, bounty hunters, and power brokers take center stage, offering a darker, more tactical flavor than previous sets. This expansion continues Fantasy Flight Games’ steady evolution of Star Wars: Unlimited, introducing new gameplay layers without abandoning what players already enjoy about the system. This is also the first set from Star Wars: Unlimited where Fantasy Flight Games has been able to take player feedback into consideration. The first of this player-focused feedback decision comes in the form of what you can pull out of a booster pack.

Updated Booster Pack Structure

One of the biggest questions we hear at TCG Moonblast is: What’s different inside a booster pack for A Lawless Time compared to previous sets? In summary, regular ol’ foils are now totally gone and replaced exclusively by Hyperspace Foil variants. Each pack now has a guaranteed Hyperspace Foil card at the end instead of the guaranteed black-bordered foil at the end.

Additionally, the pull rates in A Lawless Time booster packs have been adjusted with the release of the new set. Players can now expect a higher number of Hyperspace variants per pack in both Standard and Carbonite boosters, including an increased likelihood of pulling Rare or Legendary Hyperspace cards and Hyperspace foil variants.

While the probability of pulling a Showcase variant remains unchanged in Standard booster packs, it has been reduced in Carbonite packs. Previously, Showcase cards appeared at a rate of approximately 1 in 20 Carbonite packs; in A Lawless Time, the odds have shifted to roughly 1 in 48 Carbonite packs.

This adjustment is expected to enhance the rarity and long-term value of Showcase cards while also setting more realistic expectations for collectors opening premium products. For players who experienced earlier Carbonite boxes—where Showcase cards seemed to appear in the majority of boxes within a case—the updated pull rates may curb the disappointment of missing a Showcase despite previously elevated odds.

New Mechanics Arriving in A Lawless Time

Credits Tokens

A Lawless Time introduces Credits, a new token type that adds flexibility to resource management. Players can generate Credits during play and later defeat them to help pay costs, opening the door to creative sequencing and timing decisions. This mechanic fits perfectly with the outlaw theme of the set while adding depth without unnecessary complexity.

Multi-Aspect Cards

Another major addition is the introduction of multi-aspect cards, including cards that feature three different aspects. These cards dramatically expand deckbuilding possibilities and allow for more hybrid strategies than previous sets supported. For competitive players, this could signal meaningful meta shifts once the set releases.

Rotation!

A Lawless Time starts the first rotation cycle for competitive play! With the introduction of A Lawless Time, the first three sets, Sparks of Rebellion, Shadows the Galaxy, and Twilight of the Republic are all no longer valid under the Premier format, effectively rotated out by no longer being legal to include in deck building. Sets that have been rotated will still be officially supported by the new Eternal format where any card from any set is valid. With the meta dominance of leaders and cards from the first three sets, many players welcome the changes, hoping to drive up a larger diversity of leaders and units that can be competitive locally or on a larger scale.
